Buster Cole Unit Release Paths

Buster Cole Unit is part of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institutions Division. A person may leave Cole for parole, mandatory supervision, flat discharge, or another TDCJ unit. A transfer proves only departure from Cole. It does not show release from TDCJ custody.

Parole allows a person to serve part of the sentence in the community under TDCJ Parole Division supervision after Board of Pardons and Paroles approval and release processing. Mandatory supervision is another supervised form of release governed by eligibility and BPP action. Flat discharge means the sentence ended. Each term should be kept distinct in a release statement.

Search Buster Cole Unit Releases

The official TDCJ Online Inmate Search is the first state-prison route. Use a TDCJ number or SID when available because names can collide. Otherwise, search exact identifying information and verify date of birth, county and court of conviction, offense, and unit.

1. Enter the TDCJ or SID number, or search by name and identifying data.
2. Confirm that the result names Buster Cole Unit or the expected later location.
3. Read the Projected Release Date as an estimate, not an actual exit.
4. Check BPP review status when parole is involved, then call the post-approval line for processing status.
5. Request the TDCJ release or discharge record before describing the outcome as complete.

The search is strongest for current custody or supervision and is not a permanent public archive of everyone fully discharged. TDCJ warns that someone not shown may be in another facility. An absent result does not prove discharge.

Buster Cole Release Contact

The official TDCJ directory identifies Cole as a male state prison in Bonham. Contact the unit about facility-specific matters, but use TDCJ inmate-information and records channels for authoritative statewide release status.

Published TDCJ locator numbers are 936-295-6371 and 800-535-0283. If no TDCJ or SID number is known, have the exact date of birth ready. Published inmate-information phone hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The BPP pre-vote review-status line is 844-512-0461. After approval, physical release processing is checked at 512-406-5202. Calling the correct stage-specific line avoids turning an approval into a false statement that the person has already left Cole.

Buster Cole Release Profile

The official Cole Unit directory identifies a TDCJ male prison that opened in August 1995. It is co-located on acreage with Choice Moore Unit. Cole also has a CHANGES pre-release program, a facility-specific detail that does not itself prove any individual’s release date or eligibility.

Buster Cole Projected Release Dates

“Projected Release Date” is TDCJ’s exact label. It estimates when incarceration may end if parole does not occur earlier. The date can depend on offense and date, sentence, flat time, applicable credits, mandatory-supervision eligibility, and BPP action. It may change after credit forfeiture, a new sentence or detainer, record correction, or later review.

A future date is not a completed release. In some cases, the projected date can represent the discharge or maximum-expiration date if mandatory supervision is denied or the person is ineligible. Later approval can cause recalculation. Capture the dated result, but use actual processing status and the release record for a past event.

When the online result is unclear, email pia@tdcj.texas.gov with the full name and seven-digit TDCJ number. If unknown, provide exact date of birth or approximate age and county of conviction. Ask for location, offense, incarceration history, county and court, and Projected Release Date. TDCJ states this information service has no charge.

Buster Cole Release Records

An actual Cole release should be supported by the TDCJ release or discharge record. Ask whether the outcome was parole, mandatory supervision, flat discharge, or transfer. A favorable BPP vote is a decision stage. Conditions, programs, or later processing can still stand between the vote and physical departure.

Parole approval

A favorable BPP decision that may carry conditions and does not by itself establish the exit time.

Physical release

The later processing event that moves the person out of prison.

Discharge

The documented end of the sentence, distinct from continued supervision.

Transfer

A move between TDCJ units or to another custodian, not community release.

Formal TDCJ open-records requests go through the TDCJ public-information process. State records, not a Fannin county-jail release log, control Cole incarceration and discharge.

Match Bonham Release Facilities

Bonham has an unusually concentrated custody landscape. Cole’s 900-person unit is near Choice Moore Unit, a 1,224-person TDCJ prison, and Fannin County Jail, whose 2025 audit reports a designed capacity of 664. A search result that says “Bonham” does not identify which agency held the person.

Match Cole’s full name and 3801 Silo Road address. Choice Moore is at 1700 North FM 87, while Fannin County Jail is at 2389 Silo Road and is operated by LaSalle Corrections LLC. The jail’s release records cannot substitute for a Cole discharge record.

This distinction also prevents a transfer from being misread. A person sent from Fannin County Jail to Cole has left county custody but entered TDCJ. Someone moved from Cole to Choice Moore has left one unit but remains in state custody.

Cole Release and Other Custody

Fannin County Jail has documented historical federal-contract custody, but that history does not convert Cole into a federal facility. Cole is controlled by TDCJ. Any later federal or immigration custody must be supported by a receiving-agency record rather than inferred from local history.

A detainer or new case can affect a planned release. If TDCJ documents delivery to another authority, follow that agency’s route. BOP covers federal prison custody, USMS often controls federal pretrial custody without a public locator, and ICE has a separate locator with current and recent adult-custody limits.

Always state the narrow fact supported by the record: departure from Cole, transfer to another unit, release to supervision, or sentence discharge. “No longer at Cole” is not the same as free from all custody.

Resolve Cole Release Conflicts

Record the exact time each source was checked, the identifier used, the displayed unit, and whether each date is projected or actual. A BPP approval followed by a later TDCJ release date is a normal sequence. A Cole departure followed by a Choice Moore location indicates transfer.

If the online search has no result, use TDCJ’s warning and contact channels rather than announce discharge. If the county court shows a sentence event, remember that it explains the conviction and authority but does not replace TDCJ’s state-prison release record.

For parole or mandatory supervision, confirm the actual processing date and current supervision status. For flat discharge, obtain the discharge notation. Precise language keeps a correct facility record from becoming an unsupported claim.
